SOWF Student Throws First Pitch at Yankee Game

NY Yankees Host Military Appreciation Day Augusta State University freshman Steven Voigt had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to walk to the center mound of Yankee Stadium and throw the ceremonial first pitch during Military Appreciation Day, May 3rd. The first pitch was part of the New York Yankees' salute to America's military personnel which also paid tribute to fallen service members, including Steven's father, Petty Officer Steven Voigt, a Navy SEAL who lost his life in the Persian Gulf while conducting helicopter operations in 1996. As fans cheered him on, Steven threw a perfect fast ball to Yankees catcher Jose Molina. Steven and his grandmother, Ann, were joined on the field by Kathryn and Scott Blais, the son and daughter of LCDR Rock Blais, a Navy SEAL who lost his life in 2001.
